Al Baraha Hospital celebrates World Breastfeeding Week


UAE, 8 August 2016 - The Ministry of Health and Prevention’s (MOHAP) Al Baraha Hospital successfully concluded the celebrations for World Breastfeeding Week 2016 under the slogan “Natural breastfeeding is the key for sustainable development,” and falls in line with the efforts to promote the importance of natural breastfeeding, and encourage mothers to continue to practice.

Al Baraha Hospital, which concluded its celebrations for the World Breastfeeding Week yesterday (August 7, 2016), is considered one of the leading institutions  applying  specific standards in line with the ten steps for successful natural breastfeeding, which reflects positively on the baby’s health, and reflects the hospital’s commitment to provide the best healthcare and implementing policies, procedures and other related systems following the standards of the World Health Organization and UNICEF.

Ahmed Obaid Al Khadeim, Hospital Manager, facilitated the opening ceremony for the celebrations. He confirmed that the events aim to increase the awareness of pregnancies and instill upon the mother the importance of natural breastfeeding, and its role of providing natural protection for the baby’s health. The activities included the participation of various sectors in the hospital, where educational breastfeeding leaflets have been distributed.


Al Khadeim noted that AL Baraha hospital is an approved ‘baby friendly’ hospital, where it is committed to comply with ministerial directions, and instructions of the World Health Organization and UNICEF to ensure the utmost safety and security of mothers and their children. This is being through the implementation of natural breastfeeding programs in specialized clinics, hospital and medical centers.

Dr. Sharifa Al Emadi Assistant Manager for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Chairman of Breastfeeding Committee added: “World Breastfeeding week focuses on spread awareness and knowledge on the importance of committing to breastfeeding, by cultivating the mother’s awareness regarding the health and medical benefits of the practice on her and the and baby’s health.”
