Bangalore, March 5, 2017: IFIM Business School held their annual run – Kanyathon which began at their Electronic City campus following the theme, ‘Saving the Girl Child towards better Education and against Exploitation’. In attendance were Rajeev Gowda, Member of Parliament; Actor Akshara Hassan; Vinita Sood, Philanthropist, and Priya Bansal, a Dentist and founder of Priya Dental Clinic.
The event bore witness to over 2500 people from all walks of life which included 200 Army personnel as well as 35 women runners from the ASC. The sunny morning began with power packed panel discussion on “the role of mother's to educate their male children about gender equality” which highlighted some insightful inputs from the panellists. IFIM also facilitated 5 ISRO women scientists namely, Smt. Vasantha Kumari U N, Smt. Bhanumathy Y R, Smt. Subhalakshmi K, Smt. Shamala C P and Smt. Anitha Daniel, for their achievements in their fields.
IFIM’s Kanyathon has been supported by S.A.F.E, since the launch of the movement in February 2013, with the main aim of promoting social responsibility and creating awareness against exploitation of women. The edition highlights the fact that a girl is on an equal pedestal as a boy.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Rajeev Gowda said, “This is a terrific initiative by IFIM. We all know simply creating awareness does not solve the problem, we need to demonstrate by example and work towards making a change. This is what will make a difference.”
Akshara Hassan added, “The student community at IFIM is very strong, and that in itself is half the problem solved. The initiative has been running since quite some time and is working towards the great cause of uplifting and emancipating the women and children. I am proud to be part of this movement which empowers women to hold and make their own individual identity.”
“This annual event is held to celebrate women and women empowerment. On the occasion of Women’s day, we take this initiative to encourage them to create a better future and a healthy ecosystem to further excel. Also, we believe that saving the girl child is equally important and we will strive to do our best in supporting the organisations who are working towards the same cause,” said Sanjay Padode, Secretary, CDE (IFIM Institutions).
The winners of the 10k marathon are Dinesh Kumar and Akriti Verma and the winners of the 5k marathon are Bharat and Ananya Deep.
The proceeds from Kanyathon will be given to C.R.Y. Foundation.
