· VNL helped set up connectivity in the village transforming it into a model example of a Digital Village
New Delhi, 22 February, 2017: Following the inter-ministerial meeting between telecom ministers of ASEAN and SAARC countries and India organized by TEPC (Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council) held at New Delhi recently, a high-powered Ministerial Delegation comprising HE Mrs. Begum Tarana Halim, Honorable Minister, Post, Telecom and IT, Bangladesh; HE Mr. DN Dhungyel, Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Royal Government of Bhutan, and high-level officials from the Telecom ministries of Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia visited Karenda Digital village, in Alwar district of Rajasthan today. VNL, which indigenously develops end-to-end telecom infrastructure products and solutions has helped BSNL set up connectivity in the village and transformed it into a model example of a successful Digital Village.
The digitally empowered village has access to high-quality voice and broadband network which enables the advancement of e-education, e-governance and e-healthcare to the residents of the villages. The pilot project is being run on BSNL network to connect with the world.
It may be recalled that the Indian Government has expressed keen interest to partner with ASEAN and SAARC countries in enabling Digital Connectivity between India and ASEAN region and also for enabling broadband within ASEAN countries. These digital connectivity projects are of strategic importance and can have a transformative impact on the host economies and cooperation between the region and India. India has committed to provide financial as well as technological support for projects that could include-high-speed fiber optic networks, digital villages, rural broadband, national knowledge network, secured communication networks and telecom training and skill development. Karenda digital village is a milestone step in this direction.

About TEPC:
TEPC has been set up by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Ministry of Communications, Government of India to promote and develop of Export of Telecom Equipments and Services. The council undertakes several activities aimed at exports promotion such as Commissioning of Studies to find potential markets, holding of National/International Seminars and facilitating participation of exporters in various overseas exhibitions. The council also disseminates trade related data to its members. The council makes various recommendations to the Government for making necessary changes in various policies and procedures for promotion of Exports and Services.
