Gen Next volunteers celebrate National Youth Day amongst specially-abled women

Mumbai, January 12, 2017 : National Youth Day is celebrated across India every year on 12th January since 1985. This year the day also marks the 154th birth anniversary of great thinker and social reformer - Swami Vivekananda. To observe the occasion of National Youth Day, volunteers from young college graduates to working professionals and international students from the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota, USA visited and volunteered a day’s work at Om Creations’ workshop in Mahalaxmi – Mumbai.

The occasion witnessed young volunteers enthusiastically involved in interesting activities such as painting, bead work and making paper bags. These volunteers shared a bond with specially-abled adults of Om Creations Trust and were involved in creative activities which these women perform on day to day bases. The volunteers also witnessed how these specially-abled are trained to work and earn their livelihood.

Ruksar Shaikh, volunteer from National college said, “It was unbelievable to see the creative side of specially-abled. The artifacts they make by their gentle hand are incredible. These girls were very joyous and taught me how to paint on ceramic artifacts. This was one of the most adorable experiences of our lives. Everybody present at the site felt a connection with these specially-abled adults.”
