The solo exhibition titled Mythical Flavours From The Pastcurated by Amrita Varma, is about mapping that journey and pushing that analogy to the next level, with the use of tea stains and pigmenton paper.
Tea is a classic medium of social conversation and conversations are the key through which cultural ideas and concepts are formed.Being the beverage partner for the exhibition, Typhoo brings together art and conversations, with its assortment of specialty teas and flavored infusions.
The exhibition beautifully captures the rendered portraits and full body figures of these mythological animals, birds and other creatures on paper in paintings. The idea is to give one an intimate feel of the legends and bring back their story telling narrative from the past to present moment.
On its association with Typhoo, the artist quoted,” Painting with tea stains is a unique form of art as it provides an abstract bond with the viewer, and they connect with tea as a comfort association. Typhoo brings out the core ideology that art, life, conversation, culture and tea are together one strong bond which grow the world in body, mind and soul and build an unsurpassed experience”.
“The parallels between tea and art are too close to defy and therefore as a curator and critic it becomes important for me to show case and bring out the art through Bipasha Sen Gupta's work done with tea”, says curator Amrita Varma.
