Keen on working closely with the government under PPP model to drive the initiative
Tuesday, 24th January 2017, Hyderabad: At a press conference today, Apollo Sugar welcomed government's move to initiate a massive drive to screen for diabetes across the country. The event was organized to share Apollo Sugar's expansion plans across the country with special focus on Telangana and Andhra Pradesh due to high prevalence of diabetes in the two states.
Apollo Sugar started off with an intention to provide the best standards of preventive care for diabetic patients. The chain of clinics is equipped with highly trained, experienced and compassionate team of doctors, specialized dieticians, educators, and diabetes trained nurses. Considered as centre of excellence for diabetes and endocrine care, Apollo Sugar has the largest network of 110 dialectologists and endocrinologists and over 150 dieticians who have successfully catered to over 2 lakh happy and healthy customers. Among its recent initiatives, the brand launched an exclusive recipe book with easy and delectable diabetes friendly recipes. These recipes are put together by dieticians of Apollo sugar. Free copy of the book can be downloaded from Apollo Sugar’s Facebook page or can be picked directly from any Apollo Sugar Clinic.
On this occasion Mr. Gagan Bhalla, CEO, Apollo Sugar said, “We as a brand stand for preventive healthcare. As of today, we have done half a billion screenings for diabetes and therefore, we welcome Government’s initiative in diabetes screening across the country. From the 1 Lakh screenings that we have done in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh alone, we have found prevalence of diabetics and pre- diabetics in these two states to be 25% more as compared to national average of 18%. It was also found that people in Hyderabad with family history of diabetes were 3 times more likely to be diabetic as compare to those with no family history of diabetes. This makes Hyderabad alone twice the national average for citizens who are at risk of diabetes with family history of diabetes. These numbers are alarming and show that we are heading towards an epidemic.
In order to take control of the situation at the earliest, medical fraternity that specializes in diabetes care needs to come together with central and state governments to revert this condition. To enable this, Apollo Sugar plans to expand to 300 clinics in the coming 3 years and is actively looking forward to working with 1500 to 2500 MBBS, MD General Practioners delivering world class diabetes & endocrine care at affordable prices through its flagship annual program called Sugar 360 in Tier – 2 cities and rural areas.”
