With a view to give vent to the creative energies of primary school students –KG to Std IV- and provide a boost to their self-confidence, D.B.C School, an affiliate of Vivekanand Education Society (VES) had organized a Sports Day at R.C.F Sports Ground on December 23.
The emphasis was also on projecting the emerging India of tomorrow with the eradication of social evils like black money, terrorism and corruption and underlining the visionary step of demonetization and girls education initiated by the Narendra Modi government. Boys enacted the role of demons and girls played out the role of angels in the “demon race” category meant to emphasize the mix-n-match of good and evil within our personalities. The onus of the day was also on promoting girl education and underscoring the importance of avoiding junk foods with girls participating in events titled “Mulgi shikli pragati zali” and boys participating in “delivering pizzas on time”.
The highlight of the event was the whole-hearted participation of the students in the various programs which were an amalgamation of games, drills and entertaining performances intended to depict the present Indian ethos. While the pre-primary welcome drill showcased the greatness of Indian luminaries like Gandhiji, Swami Vivekanand, Amitabh Bachchan and Lata Mangeshkar, Senior KG boys and girls displayed their versatility through performances themed around “surgical strikes” and “happy to go for shopping.” Students of Std 1 exhibited their talent for music through a musical drill culminating in a human formation of the letters VES to honor their alma mater.
“I have never seen such a massive torrent of talent in a single event which not only inculcates in students the importance of physical health but also spreads awareness about important social issues like girl’s education and need to eat healthy food through entertaining performances. Such events not only help in character-building of students at a young age but also help in increased self-confidence and lay the foundation for them to become the model citizens of tomorrow,”stated Shri. C.M.T.Britto, Director (Tech), RCF, who was present at the event to encourage the students.
The festive spirit of Christmas prevailed in the atmosphere with boys from Std III dressing like Santa Claus and girls decorating the Christmas tree. “Institutions like VES have always been known to cement in impressionable young minds the importance of the core values of self-sufficiency, dignity, ethics and personality development. Such events not only provide a credible platform for young students to participate in extra-curricular activities and hone their sporting talents, it also helps the institution in creating a noble legacy which the students can be proud of for the rest of their lives, “stated Ms. Ayonika Paul, ex-student of VES and winner in the Air Rifle category at Winter Olympics, 2016 and silver medalist at Commonwealth Games, 2014.
