NSSH to organize LYMPHEDEMA workshop


India 14 December 2016: With a view to highlight the risks and symptoms associated with lymphedema and stress on the importance of early diagnosis and proper treatment, Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital will organize a “LYMPHEDEMA” workshop on December 15, 2016. It will be held in association with Rotary Club of Mumbai North Island and India Lymphedema Foundation (ILF). This is a free workshop for the general public where experts will clear the doubts of participants regarding lymphedema through an interactive question-answer session.

“Lymphedema is a condition, occurs as a result of accumulation of lymph fluid when lymphatic is impaired. It results from removal of lymph nodes in some cancer operations or damage to lymphatic system on account of radiation to the affected area, infection, injury or trauma. The condition, which is normally seen in arms or legs especially in arms of breast cancer survivors, can cause pain, heaviness. It can impair normal functioning of the affected limb,” stated Dr. Sanjay Dudhat, Surgical Oncologist, NSSH.

NSSH to organize LYMPHEDEMA workshop


The workshop will broadly dwell on understanding the concepts of self-manual lymphatic drainage, use of compression garments and nutritional care.  Participants will be enlightened on the working of the lymphatic system, given exercise demonstration with patients and provided with skin care and risk management tips.

Dr. Sanjay Dudhat and Dr. Ali Irani from NSSH will apprise the participants on cancer awareness issues and post-surgery therapies. The work shop will be conducted by Ms. Ira Dave, founder of ILF and Ms. Michele Coxon, a certified lymphedema therapist from USA. Rotarian Vipul Gandhi, President of Rotary Club of Mumbai North Island will anchor the event along with Mr. Ramon Abrol and Rotarian Markand Dave, ILF co-ordinators.
