India November 15, 2016: Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), an acknowledged national resource Institute for Entrepreneurship Education, Research, Training and Institution Building, has collaborated with University of East London (UEL) to promote social entrepreneurship education in India. The primary objective of this collaboration is to mainstream social entrepreneurship education in India through sensitization, awareness, discussions and deliberations.
Sharing information about the collaboration, Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director, EDII said, “The ‘Mainstreaming of Social Entrepreneurship Education in India’ programme managed by EDII, in collaboration with the University of East London (UEL), seeks to inject enthusiasm and competency for social entrepreneurship education. This is supported by the British Council, New Delhi under their aegis of Social Enterprise Education Programme (SEEP), a significant initiative by the Council in facilitating social entrepreneurship education in India.”
Prof Andre Mostert of University of East London said, "India is seen as one of the, if not the most, entrepreneurial countries in the world. Recognising this fact EDII has linked up with the University of East London, in the United Kingdom, to tap into that entrepreneurial spirit and to nurture and enhance it. EDI and UEL have formed a partnership to develop an internationally accredited qualifications framework to support social enterprise across India. The Advanced Award in Social Enterprise will be launched in January 2017, which will give budding business and social entrepreneurs a pathway to gain those essential business and social skills and to bring their ideas to fruition - whilst also gaining a qualification and developing experience of building and managing social enterprises. A winning formula from a winning partnership! "
Dr Guru Gujral, Head – Society (India), British Council said, "I am pleased with the enthusiasm and interest that EDI and the UK partner have shown in implementing the ‘Social Enterprise’ programme and believe that through this partnerships they will develop knowledge, skills and curricula that will help mainstreaming social enterprise in Higher Education system."
Dr. Sanjay Pal, Senior Faculty, EDII said, “Considering the changes happening in the socio-economic environment, promoting Social Entrepreneurship education in India is of utmost importance. Sensitising students about Social Entrepreneurship and its relevance in addressing diverse problems of the society and community is getting increasing significance. Thus I am sure that ‘Mainstreaming Social Entrepreneurship Education Project’ taken up by EDII will yield positive results. Thanks to the British Council for supporting such an important initiative.”
The institute is planning a two year distance education programme in Social Entrepreneurship for imparting knowledge, education and skills to set up social enterprises. Under the aegis of Udyamita project of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Institute will also promote social entrepreneurship to facilitate inclusive and holistic growth of the local economy.
