Reatilers Association of India's statement on Banning of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes

India 9 November 2016:
The NDA government on Tuesday announced that it is banning use of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. quote from Mr. Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, Retailers Association of India on the same.

RAI believes that the move to discontinue existing notes of Rs500 and Rs1000 denominations is a momentous one by the honourable Prime Minister of India (Narendra Modi) . It may impact cash transactions at retail outlets in the short term, but will have a very long-reaching constructive impact for the country. Modern retailers in India have always been in favour of accounting for every transaction that takes place at the stores and hence welcome the initiative. During the transition period, all modern retailers will extend as much support to the customers as they can, because they anyway accept bank transactions as a means of tender. We also believe a larger positive impact will be seen once GST gets rolled out.
