Narayana Nethralaya organizes a special Eye Screening Programme for CRPF Jawans
6 November 2016: Bangalore: Narayana Nethralaya in association with CRPF, Bangalore organized “CRPF Vision - Our Mission” programme Today as a part of the Vigilance Awareness week 2016 being observed from 31st October to 5th November, 2016. The programme was inaugurated by Shri.Suraj Bhan Kajal, IGP, Karnataka Kerala Sector, Central Reserve Police Force at their CRPF Center, Yelahanka. Dr. K. Bhujang Shetty, Chairman & Managing Director, Narayana Nethralaya was the chief guest and present at the inauguration were Dr. Sujatha, DIG, Medical, Composite Hospital, CRPF, Bangalore and other dignitaries from the CRPF department. The Free Eye consultation programme will be a one year programme starting from this year’s Deepavali 2016 (November 2016) to Next Year Deepavali, 2017. During the year-long campaign, CRPF personnel can walk into any of the four hospitals of Narayana Nethralaya by exhibiting their Identity cards for a free consultation and eye testing under the guidance of expert ophthalmologists. The plan is to cover all the CRPF Personnel under the campaign.
Like every year, this year too, Narayana Nethralaya has come up with this yearly programme with the pretext to bring a light of hope in the lives of the Jawans, thus giving them a firsthand information on the condition of their eyes. We at Narayana Nethralaya work towards giving back to the society in our own small way. We have conducted similar programmes to City Police, BMTC Drivers, KSRPC, and to the Fire Personnel of Bangalore. This year, we planned to conduct this free eye screening programme to our CRPF Jawans. Said Dr. K. Bhujang Shetty at the inauguration of the “CRPF Vision – Our Mission” programme.
“Many people are afflicted with diseases such as BP and diabetes, which are known to affect the eyes over time. It is not necessary for CRPF personnel to have eye related issues due to these common factors. Usually eye problems start surfacing among people after 40 and it is good to have a Eye checkup to know the health of one’s eyes. People at CRPF undergo vigorous training and get recruited and they are so dedicated that they hardly find time for themselves and their families. They get so busy protecting our country from the enemies; they have a tight vigil on our borders day and night, struggling hard to protect us. We have planned this programme as a token of gratitude to the selfless Jawans who are the eyes of our country. I am glad that we can make some kind of difference in their lives through our ‘CPRF Vision – Our Mission’, ” Dr Bhujang Shetty was quoted as saying.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri. SURAJ BHAN KAJAL said Bangalore has around 4400 and odd CRPF Jawans As far as serving personnel are concerned, lot of facilities are being provided to the Jawans and their families. There are family welfare centers which take care of their basic and other important needs. We are glad that Narayana Nethralaya has offered to care for them keeping in mind the nature of work and risk factors they face. We have signed an MOU with Narayana Nethralaya where all our Jawans will be given free consultation for one year and other expenses will be at CGHS rates for the jawans. We express our gratitude for their thoughtfulness, he said, while speaking on the occasion of Vigilance week observed at CRPF from October 31st to November 5th, 2016.
A programme to pledge eyes was also launched. The importance and awareness on of Eye donation was also created among fire personnel. Out of the estimated 1.3 crore visually challenged people, only 0.3 per cent are permanently blind. “We can fight blindness if more people are willing to shed their prejudices and pledge to donate their eyes,” concluded Dr. Shetty.
ABOUT CPRF: The Central Reserve Police Force is the largest Central Armed Police Forces of India. It functions under the aegis of MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) of the Government of India. CRPF’s primary role lies in assisting Union/ State Territories in police operations to maintain law and order & counter-insurgency.
