Bengaluru, India, November 15, 2016: The proposed six-lane steel flyover project to the airport at a cost of Rs. 1800 crores by Karnataka government has put the life of city’s 800 oldest trees in danger. Jhatkaa.org is campaigning to save the city’s greenery from multiple infrastructure projects. They are also adding to Citizen against Steel Flyover’s (CASFo) efforts stop this flyover.

The campaign to mobilize the citizens of Bengaluru started with a missed call campaign set up by Jhatkaa.org using Exotel’s platform on 21st Sept 2016. People can simply give a missed call to 08033013169 to register their support. This number has become wildly popular and is being forwarded via SMS and Whatsapp. In just about 3 days, over 100,000 people registered their support via missed calls & online petitions. So far, they have managed to garner the support of nearly 140,000 people. Majority of these people have expressed their solidarity via the missed call campaign.

“For campaigns like this it’s pertinent to draw voices from across the city. Today, some of these campaigns gain support usually through digital email campaigns. But garnering larger masses to support can be made far easier via missed call service. Anybody with a basic mobile phone can participate. This is one of the mass outreach potentials of Cloud Telephony and we were happy to support Jhatkaa.org in their endeavor,” said Shivku, Co-founder and CEO, Exotel.

"The missed call campaign has exponentially increased our reach in the moments during this campaign. Because of the ease of sharing and taking action, many more people have signed on. It’s incredibly encouraging and now we have to work harder to strengthen our mobile strategy so Jhatkaa members can amplify their impact." - Premita Singha, (Senior Mobile Strategist), Jhatkaa.org
