About Sapna. Bachat. Udaan

MetLife Foundation and Sesame Workshop in India (SWI), the organization behind Galli Galli Sim Sim (the Indian adaptation of Sesame Street), launched a new multimedia global initiative called “Sapna, Bachat, Udaan: Aarthik Bal, Har Parivar ka Haq.” This is a unique global initiative on financial inclusion and empowerment for children in the age group of 3-8 years and their caregivers.SWI has converted a vegetable cart into a mobile TV, which travels to each street of the selected area calling out for children to watch educational and entertaining videos on financial literacy. All kids gather around the TV for the MCV which is followed by workshops. The MCVs and workshops aim to improve the knowledge, language and strategies on financial literacy thereby increasing the dialogue between parents and children. These activities provide valuable knowledge about financial literacy and help both the parents and children to inculcate the concepts of sharing, saving, delayed gratification. Partners of SWI will reach 20,000 children during the course of the project; currently they are starting the workshops with 5000 children.

About Galli Galli Sim Sim

The aim behind the one and only muppet show is preparing children for the 21st century. Along with the necessary literacy and numeracy skills, children need to learn about self-regulation such as focused attention, controlling their emotions and their impulses. Recent studies have shown that self-regulation and executive functioning skills are critical indicators for school readiness. The process that enables them to learn about planning, initiate and complete an activity while controlling their temper, maintaining attention and responding to feedback from others need to be taught at a very young age.
