20 October 2016 Mumbai : K. J. Somaiya College of Physiotherapy, witnessed a number of enthusiastic students,dancing,performing skits,and holding slogans that,created awareness, for the ocassion of World Osteoporosis Day. Around 20 students from K. J. Somaiya College of Physiotherapy, took it upon themselves to use this occasion and create awareness about Osteoporosis, urging people on the need for changing their lifestyle and inculcating exercises in their daily routine.Visitors were taken by a plesant surprise and promised themselves on bringing a positive change for the sake of their loved ones and themselves.
Worldwide, osteoporosis causes more than 8.9 million fractures annually, resulting in an osteoporotic fracture every 3 seconds ,more women than men are susceptable to this disease.Osteoporosis is estimated to affect 200 million women worldwide
Principal Veena Krishnanand, K. J. Somaiya College of Physiotherapy, said the objective of the flash mob was to sensitise people about osteoporisis,since it is considered one of the sneakiest conditions— that’s because, when it starts, it’s symptomless. It is this silent disease. Although it can strike at any age, osteoporosis mostly occurs in people over 50. However, at every age, a healthful diet and regular weight-bearing exercise are important, helping to ensure bone tissue continues to build”
