More than 50% Porters Screened on World Sight Day have defective Vision
Bangalore, October 13, 2016: The second Thursday of October is celebrated worldwide as World Sight Day. Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore in collaboration with Essilor, Indian Railways and Young Indians (CII) organized an eye screening programme for the porters in the railway station.
The theme of the World Sight Day is “Universal Eye Health”. The porters are an integral part of our railway system, preventive health care for them is our responsibility. On the event of World Sight Day, Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore conducted a free screening test of 133 porters at the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Bengaluru railway station. 60% of them were having an eye test for the first time and over 56% were found to have eye defects.” shared, Dr. Kaushik Murali, President, Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore.

Over 100 pledges were collected from passengers, railway staff and porters during the campaign.
