HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer receives Consul General and Head of the Commercial Section of the Royal Danish Consulate in Dubai

: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received HE Morten Siem Lynge, the Consul General of the Royal Danish Consulate in Dubai, and Ms. Astrid Nielsen, Head of the Commercial Section of the Royal Danish Consulate in Dubai, at DEWA’s head office. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between DEWA and Denmark in the fields of sustainability and energy efficiency, as part of DEWA’s efforts to enhance its cooperation with diplomatic and consulate organisations in Dubai.
Al Tayer welcomed Lynge and Nielsen, noting the importance of developing further cooperation between DEWA and Danish companies, in order to improve relations for mutual benefits. Al Tayer noted that DEWA is committed towards achieving the long-term National Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to build a green economy in the UAE, and the Dubai Plan 2021, which features a clear framework with ambitious initiatives and development projects that combine economic development with the sustainability of energy and a clean, healthy, and safe environment.

Al Tayer also noted that DEWA works to achieve the energy Demand Side Management strategy, which features nine programmes that contribute to the sustainable development of Dubai. These include the rules and regulations for green buildings, the rehabilitation of existing buildings, district cooling, regulations and standards for energy efficiency, reuse of waste-water for use in irrigation and technology to raise the efficiency of street lighting, and the Shams Dubai Initiative. Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s most important development projects, and strategic initiatives, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is managed by DEWA and is one of the largest single-site strategic renewable energy projects in the world. It is based on the independent power producer (IPP) model, with a planned total capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW) by 2020 and 5,000MW by 2030. Al Tayer also discussed DEWA’s Smart Grids project and three smart initiatives as part of the Smart Dubai initiative. The Danish delegation expressed their interest in participating in DEWA’s projects, and thanked Al Tayer for his hospitality and for enhancing bilateral relations, to benefit the renewable energy sector, and achieve sustainable development.
