Dubai, UAE, 18 September 2016: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) received the 5th edition of the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. This became possible after a team of DEWA professionals successfully passed the PMI (Project Management Institute) standards. This supports DEWA’s ongoing commitment to learning in line with achieving the UAE Vision 2021, to transform the UAE into one of the best countries in the world by 2021.
The renewed certification reflects DEWA’s ability to provide its employees, with world-class training and educational programmes that will enhance the efficiency of development projects, by adopting advanced principles of project management. To earn the Registered Education Providers designation, a provider must meet or exceed rigorous standards for quality and effectiveness as defined by PMI.
“I would like to congratulate DEWA for receiving this certificate, which I consider an achievement of great significance. DEWA works in adherence with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to develop the skills and capabilities of our staff. HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum once said, ‘Government employees are the engines of our achievements. They are the energy that fuels our development.’ DEWA has taken great steps to train its employees, by providing innovative programmes and special training courses for all its divisions and departments, giving employees the opportunity to become accustomed to the latest business and innovation updates. This efficiently improves their skills and their professionalism. DEWA is proud of the achievements made by its employees, who effectively improve productivity and efficiency in their work and careers,”’ said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA has adopted a clear strategy to enhance innovation among its employees in all its divisions. DEWA works to enhance, and deepen the awareness of its staff to improve their skills, and train them to adhere to best practices. This supports the development of their skills, to make it a part of our day-to-day operations. Our staff are an important element that contribute to DEWA’s standards of excellence, as shown by our services and operations.
In 2012, DEWA was the first government organisation to become a registered educational provider, delivering activities and accredited courses by the American Project Institute (PMI). We have become a port of the world project management standards, allowing us to share knowledge, communication, and skills in the UAE, through different branches of PMI. We are glad to have received this certificate, as it reflects our commitment towards enhancing and achieving sustainable excellence, and competitiveness in the Emirate, while working to provide world-class government services, and adopting the latest international practices,” added Al Tayer.
As a result of PMI, DEWA will improve, and achieve its goals and projects locally and internationally. DEWA will be able to achieve savings on training budgets by providing training courses internally with the same international credits. The achievement enables DEWA to customize Project Management trainings as per PMI Standards and DEWA requirements and with less dependency on external training providers. DEWA will also receive all publications released by PMI.
PMI’s credentials will aid DEWA’s Project Management team, allowing them to become certified in the categories of Project Management Professional (PMP), Program Management Professional (PgMP), Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), PMI Professional in Business Analysis, PMI's Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP), and Projects Planning and Scheduling Standards (PSP).
