Bangalore, August 24, 2016: To accelerate the pace of Skill Development in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), Tata Trusts today joined hands with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for a study to be undertaken by Dalberg Global Development Advisors aimed at understanding the aspirations of the youth from the state and identifying the key challenges and interventions that can create a better impact by way of employment opportunities with corporates. Tata Trusts are committed to skill development at the national level.
The study would look at the aspirations of the youth and shall engage with large corporates to explore possibilities of skilling and hiring them, look at the enablement process for the youth to get ready for the corporate sector careers and finalise job roles in line with the aspirations of the youth.
Commenting on this initiative, Mr S Ramadorai, Chairman, NSDA & NSDC said, “We have seen some encouraging results from the state of J&K along with the required passion and eagerness of the youth to be a part of the large corporates and MSME sector in India. This intervention is a natural extension of our desire to enable a two-way connect between the industry and the state’s youth leading to mutually beneficial outcomes while addressing aspirations.”
The graduates, post-graduates and engineering diploma candidates from J&K have exhibited their professional abilities while working in reputed companies across India under the Udaan program of Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India run by NSDC in collaboration with several corporates. Sectors like retail, banking, financial services, IT-ITeS, infrastructure, hospitality, etc. have been covered so far. Similarly, the Himayat program, supported by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, has over the last few years, helped train and place youth from the state for entry level jobs in hospitality, retail, and other professions.
NSDC has evaluated the opportunities and is looking at scaling up the program and revisiting the gaps so that more youth from J&K can get better careers and self-employment opportunities. This partnership among Tata Trusts, NSDC and Dalberg will identify the real gaps and give the right direction to bring higher standards and scale to the skilling initiatives for the youths from J&K. The youth outreach plan, corporate engagement model, skilling value-chain alignment and a rollout plan would all be addressed as a part of this critical intervention.
