Welingkar Institute successfully inaugurates Foundation Fortnight -Neev 2016


Padma Bhushan (Dr) Devi Prasad Shetty inspired the students to foster positive attitude

Bengaluru, 08th July 2016: The inaugural day of Welingkar Institute, Bengaluru’s Foundation Fortnight for 2016 -18 motivated the new batch of student’s to develop the right attitude along with the aptitude. Being true to the theme of “Wings of Wonder…Roots in Reality” the dignitaries persuaded the students for introspection, giving them right models to emulate and enhance their appetite for success.

The chief guest for the inauguration day was Padma Bhushan (Dr) Devi Prasad Shetty. During his interaction with the students Dr. Shetty prompted them to have that unassailable faith in themselves. “Humility is an unparalleled virtue. Organizations don’t hire for skills; they hire for attitude. Skills can always be developed and taught.” said Dr. Shetty. He went down the memory lane, sharing anecdotes from early days of his career abroad and the entailing concerns. He told the students that the only jobs they don’t get are the ones that they don’t apply for. They should be very clear about the purpose of their life with unrelenting faith in themselves. Limits exist only in imagination. With clarity in their vision they can easily realize their aspirations. He laid a strong emphasis on social responsibility and spirituality. He emphatically told the young professionals that when one decides to venture upon a path that touches lives of millions at the bottom of pyramid, the entire cosmos connives to support.”    

Answering to the questions of the students he spoke about the healthcare ecosystem in the rural areas and how policy decisions can ease the situation. He brought up the issue of absolute dearth of doctors in the rural areas, juxtaposing the same with the numbers in the developed countries. Also, he highlighted the importance of technology to thrive in the current times. 

While addressing the concerns of commercialization, he said ‘It wasn’t bad in itself as long as it was guided by good business principles and ideology. Money should act as an enabler for a bigger cause. Not everyone is blessed with the capability to create wealth but then those who are should consider themselves as the custodian of that and not the masters. And use the same to help others who are not that privileged.’

Interacting with the students, Dr (Prof) Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, Welingkar implored the new batches to explore the world of opportunities open before them. Living in the best of the times, they should use all their energy to soar high and shine bright in their chosen spaces. Modern day technology has made them privy to the latest developments across the globe. Clubbing it with their high energy levels, creativity, indomitable spirit of adventure and indefatigable belief in self along with an underlying concern for the society at large, they could be the real agents of change.  

Also, present at the event was Padamshri Arundhati Nag, the famous film actress and theatre personality addressed the students. And her session was followed by an interactive session by the well- known fitness expert Wanitha Ashok who shared insights on how to balance a health regime in the demanding phase of their career.

The much celebrated fortnight serves as a precursor to the new academic session. It progresses through a series of events including lectures, interactive sessions, discussions and group activities. Introspection, vision, innovation, excellence, passion and compassion are elements pervading the fortnight. The aim is to develop the zeal and enthusiasm amongst the students and prepare them to take up challenges, raze limitations and soar high in their aspired firmament. They learn that the value of ethics and responsible social behavior.
