Mumbai 1st July 2016: Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME), one of the premier Rotary Clubs in Chennai in association with the Rotary Club of Utara Subang Jaya, Malaysia has donated equipments worth Rs. 40 Lakhs under its “Breath of Life” project to the Hindu Mission Hospital, Tambaram. This will be a boon to the patients who come to the hospital and will benefit over 50,000 patients annually.
This latest initiative of the club under the “Global Grant Scheme” seeks to equip the Intensive Care Unit of Hindu Mission Hospital (HMH) at Tambaram, Chennai with high-end ventilators, mechanised critical care beds and a bicarbonate mixer that will be useful in patient care.
Details of equipment being donated and donors:
The following equipment, at a total cost of INR 36,00,000 (US$ 52,941), is being donated to Hindu Mission Hospital under this project.
The donors are as below:
Rotary Club of Madras East: Rs 6.50 lakhs
Rotary International District 3230: Rs 8.50 lakhs
Rotary Club of Utara Subang Jaya: Rs 7.00 lakhs
The Rotary Foundation, New Delhi: Rs 15.00 lakhs
Other contributions Rs. 3.00 lakhs
Total: Rs 40.00 lakhs
Hindu Mission Hospital (HMH) at Tambaram, Chennai was started in 1982 with a singular vision of providing high quality healthcare to the poor and needy.
· The hospital performs nearly 25,000 free surgeries every year for needy patients apart from offering free consultation.
· Dialysis is provided at a very nominal cost of Rs 200/- per sitting which is one of the cheapest anywhere in India.
· Camps are conducted every Sunday in surrounding villages by multi-disciplinary teams of consultants. Patients requiring follow up are referred to base hospital. Nearly 10,000 patients are screened every year through these camps.
· Free eye camps are also performed to screen patients for cataract. Free surgery is performed at the hospital.
Other free services include audiogram and speech therapy, free artificial limb centre as well as free nutritious meal scheme for in-patients.
