Mumbai 15 July, 2016: In keeping with the green spirit of monsoon and giving unstinted support to the July 1 initiative of Maharashtra government to plant 2 crore trees, students of Rochiram.T.Thadani High School for Hearing Handicapped undertook a ‘Vriksh Dindi’, a tree plantation rally to espouse environmental causes. With the slogan ‘save trees save earth’, the 2 km rally started with the planting of the Tulsi plant on the school campus today on the holy occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi.R.T.Thadani High School is a wing of Vivekanand Education Society (VES), Chembur.
“Around 120 children of the school participated whole-heartedly and enthusiastically in the rally. They distributed 25 saplings of guava, mango and tulsi to local residents which were given to us by Hariyali Sanstha of Mulund, free of cost. Coinciding with the holy occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi, small children from the school dressed like varkaris (devotees of Lord Vithal) and also performed to the beats of lezim. The rally has been conceived as part of a unique project in which we have encouraged the children to not only plant the trees but also nurture them over a period of one year, “said Mr. Amar Asrani, Director, R.T.Thadani High School.
To mark the event, children made paintings highlighting various environmental issues. While some of the paintings were hand-made and printed, students also showed an imaginative flair for art by using natural material like mud in making the paintings. The innovative artwork was a visual celebration of young artistic minds. The rally passed through Collector's Colony, Chembur Camp and Union Park.
