Mumbai 9 July 2016: Having received massive reception at screenings held in Boston, Los Angeles, and the Legislative Assembly of Kerala; the internationally acclaimed documentary will be screened in Delhi to raise awareness on cruelties against temple elephants.
The screening will be attended by Union Cabinet Minister for Women & Child Development and animal activist Mrs. Maneka Gandhi, along with other dignitaries and activists working for the cause wildlife conservation.
Gods in Shackles, directed by Canada based Sangita Iyer, portrays hideous stories behind the veil of Kerala's prestigious temple festivals. As a part of the production, the crew followed the lives of four celebrity elephants for over a year. As per the official data, as many as 156 elephants had died during 2012-14. In Kerala alone, more than 53 elephants succumbed to serious injuries in 2015.
The documentary has been nominated by the International Elephant Film Festival at the United Nations General assembly and has won seven international film festival awards including the Los Angeles Cinefest Award, Hollywood International Independent Documentary Film Festival Award, The IMPACT Docs - Award of Merit, Golden Award at the World Documentary Awards.
