It is an Indian festival that is celebrated to express reverence towards your Guru, your teacher or mentors. It falls on the day of the full moon or Poornima of Ashadh month. Etymologically, the word Guru has been derived from two parts – Gu that means darkness and Ru that is the antidote to the darkness. Naturally, the word Guru implies someone who shows takes us away from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge
Guru Poornima means honoring and celebrating the source of wisdom. The celebration is marked by ritualistic respect to the guru, Guru Puja. The Guru Principle is said to be a thousand times more active on the day of Guru Poornima than on any other day. Gurus are believed by many to be the most necessary part of life. On this day, disciples offer puja (worship) or pay respect to their guru (spiritual guide). Also this festival has great importance for Indian academics and scholars. Indian academics celebrate this day by thanking their teachers as well as remembering past teachers and scholars.

This year Guru Poornima, the Festival of Teachers is being celebrated in the garden city of Bangalore on Tuesday, 19th July, 6:03pm onwards at Palace Grounds, Tripura Vasini, Gate No 1. It is a public Spiritual event that contains an overall perspective of how we connect our modern world with a spiritual guidance. This event does not contain any religious bias.
