Winners Get to Win Tablets and Qualify for Grand Finale
Patiala, July 31, 2016: Taking the vision of Digital India forward, Connect Broadband Net Champs Program enters the City Finale stage. The huge response from all participating schools has made this program a big success in the region. The intra-city Finale round held at Ryan International school, Patiala, today witnessed participation from students of top schools from Patiala. A total of 6 schools participated in the competition. Participant schools were judged on the basis of performances by eminent judges and the shortlisted will become eligible for participation in Grand finale.
Jaskirat and Mannat from Bhupindra International School, Patiala were selected as the winners of 5th and 6th group while Arjun and Vineet from Ryan International school, Patiala, were chosen as winners from 7th and 8th group.
Talking about the Program and its takeaways, Mr Arvind Bali, Director and CEO, Connect Broadband & Videocon Telecommunications Limited, said, “Net Champs is a program that will make children well aware about the use of Technology and Internet. We not only want to guide our future generation on internet etiquettes but also make learning more fun. Connect Broadband Net Champs recently won a prestigious award at an International operator’s conference “Species 2016” held at Lisbon, Portugal. The Company was awarded the best strategic campaign for its CSR initiative “Connect Net Champs”. Broadband operators from across 20 countries participated this year. There were entries from France, England, Poland, Belgium and the USA for this title. Connect Broadband was declared the winner through a voting process amongst 150 delegates present at the forum.
Connect Broadband in collaboration with Hindustan Times kick started Connect Net Champs in September last year. The Program entered the school classrooms to impart training on internet etiquette, making it an ideal platform to provide technical know-how to children, parents and teachers. To address the concern on how fast the growing internet revolution is impacting young minds, Connect Net Champs conducted a series of seminars in more than hundred Schools in Punjab followed by a thrilling Quiz contest for students. Four candidates from each School were shortlisted for the next round. More than fifty thousand students attended the seminars.
Children were educated on the advantages of the internet and what children could do offline and online. Know how on the potential risks related to internet and how to avoid such risks were also imparted. The potential risks such as exposure to inappropriate material, harassment and bullying, physical molestation, legal and financial, viruses and hackers were explained to the children. Additionally, important guidelines were imparted on how children can avoid online risks and rules for online safety and how to be a smart internet user. Connect Broadband has recently invested 118 crores in “New Connect Xpressway”, a futuristic network to provide fast, secure and safe high speed broadband to users across the region.
To carry forward the Connect Net Champs Program, Connect Broadband tied up with all the leading schools in the region. The Program consisted of series of seminars targeted for students, teachers and parents, delivered by experts in field of Computer Science and Information Technology. These were followed by Quiz rounds where students were shortlisted for next round. The event was structured in three tiers including school rounds, city round and the Grand finale. Chandigarh and Punjab-wide Mega Contest this year strived to hunt for the Net Champ. In each round there were exciting gifts to be won. The event has been conducted in more than 100 leading schools across Punjab and Tricity. City Finale rounds have already been conducted in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and the Contest is fast inching towards the grand finale stage.
