Head and Neck surgery, a big deal in Oncology
Bangalore, July 25th 2016 - In an endeavour to give a second chance to patients suffering from head and neck cancers, Apollo Hospitals conducted the city’s first ever dedicated workshop on head and neck cadaveric dissection surgery in its Bannerghatta facility between 22nd and 24th. The faculty of the workshop included stalwarts from across the country in the area of head and neck surgery.
“Head and neck cancers constitute one-third of all the cancers in the country and is the commonest malignancy encountered in Indian males. Head and neck onco-surgery is among most complex surgeries as it involves critical neuro-vascular structures. Such surgeries require advanced surgical techniques and highly skilled team of doctors”, said Dr. Satish Nair, Senior Consultant & Professor Course Director, Department of ENT & Head-Neck Surgery, Apollo Hospitals.
“In order to facilitate these complex surgeries in the city, Apollo Hospitals has now formed a dedicated team of specialists including Head & Neck Surgeon, Medical Oncologist, Radiation Oncologist, Reconstruction Surgeon and Speech & Swallowing Rehabilitation Specialist”, added Dr. Nair
The workshop that concluded on Sunday was conducted with and aim to develop skill and to impart knowledge in this area of Medicine. The three-day long workshop was formulated in an innovative format which combined formal teaching sessions with supervised practical training.
