Drive encourages enrollment in school; impacts over 1,000 children
Mundra, 1 July, 2016: Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, through its 100 percent subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL) has been undertaking various social activities with an aim to improve the lives of its communities with special emphasis on child education. In line with this commitment, CGPL in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat organised ‘Shala Pravesh Utsav’ across 42 schools of Mundra and Mandvi blocks in Kutch district, Gujarat. The Shala Pravesh Utsav was aimed at encouraging parents to enroll their children in schools with a special focus on educating the girl child. The initiativeis a part of the Shiksha Sarathi programme, the comprehensive education programme which focuses on extending quality education to every child within the company’s area of operations.

During the Shala Pravesh Utsav 2016, CGPL undertook various rallies raising awareness among the villagers on the importance of children’s education. The awareness drives were specially designed to motivate parents to enroll their children in schools. The team of CGPL distributed leaflets among the community which highlighted the various activities being undertaken to enhance the quality of education in local government schools. A Shiksha Saarthi mobile van was also introduced during the event as an awareness tool to ensure maximum reach to the parents and new entrants to school.
Speaking on the impact and the various initiatives, KK Sharma, ED and CEO, CGPL, said, “We, at Tata Power, have always given child education in operational areas utmost priority. All our initiatives for our communities are aimed at their holistic development. CGPL’s Shala Pravesh Utsav has been instrumental in motivating and encouraging parents to enroll their child in school. Our commitment to improve the standard of education in the areas of operation is further reinstated by this year’s Shala Pravesh Utsav. We would continue to support in a collaborative manner in improving the standard of life for our communities through various interventions. We also take this opportunity to thank the Government of Gujarat for collaborating with CGPL in making the Shala Pravesh Utsav a resounding success in Mundra and Mandvi blocks.”
During the drive over 1,000 school kits were distributed to the new entrants across the schools in two blocks. Apart from the distribution of school kits, the students from standard 1 to 5 also received notebooks from the team. Along with the school kits, various nutrition kits were also distributed among students nominated by the Anganwadi workers in ordered to improve health and hygiene standards among the students. During the awareness drive, the visiting dignitaries also appreciated CGPL’s efforts in implementing RO plants in 34 schools in the operational area.
