Quote on Impact of Brexit on students studying in the European countries from Manipal University

Mumbai, 27th June 2016 :
“Dr Radhakrishna Aithal, Director, International Centre for Applied Sciences (ICAS), Manipal University, which offers Twinning Engineering Programmes, shared his analysis on Brexit and its implications for the education sector in India. Dr Aithal disclosed that student statistics from Twinning Engineering Programmes offered by ICAS, Manipal University had been suggesting a declining trend in recent years for UK as a destination for under-graduate engineering studies. On the other hand, Australia and US had become more popular destinations for students studying at the Twinning Engineering Programme offered by ICAS, Manipal University. According to Dr. Aithal, Brexit may reverse this trend to some extent considering the fall in British Pound. The fall of British Pound will make UK a cheaper destination compared to Australia or US, especially for students interested in pursuing a part of their Twinning Engineering Programme in UK universities. Manipal University’s Twinning Engineering Programme, already allows a huge cost saving for Indian students as they are able to pursue 2 years of their International Engineering Programme at Manipal University while the remaining duration is spent in a foreign university which awards the Degree. Dr Aithal feels that if students opt for Universities in UK for continuing their second leg of the Twinning Engineering programme, the overall cost of their engineering education will come down even further. Manipal University has partnered with several UK based Universities for its Twinning Engineering Programme offered by ICAS. Some of these partner Universities include, City University London, Lancaster University, University of Leicester, Sheffield Hallam University, University of Nottingham, Edinburgh Napier University, University of Birmingham, Queen Mary University of London and University of Strathclyde. Besides these, many other UK based Universities have also accepted transfer of credits from Manipal University’s, ICAS students, given the international standard curriculum followed at the University. Brexit may actually have helped Indian students in making affordable yet quality education a compelling possibility.”
