BANGALORE, June 3rd, 2016:  “According to statistical report, India has 272 state universities, 245 private universities, 137 deemed universities, and all of them have to play a major and the most challenging role in imparting education to students. 40% of faculty positions are vacant in Indian universities today; many are managing only with guests faculties. These kind of conferences will bring in a change in the role of the universities, I congratulate and whole heartedly extend my support to have more discussions, to bring in quality education”, said Shri. T.B.Jayachandra, Hon’ble Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs, Higher Education, Government of Karnataka and Chairman KSHEC while inaugurating the One Day National Conference on “The Role of State Private Universities in fulfilling the aspirations of the Stake Holders – Present and Future” here in Gandhi Bhavan today.

Padmabhushan Shri Mahadevappa, President Forum of Former Vice Chancellors of Karnataka State Universities, Bangalore, addressed the conference. He quoted, “Many universities across India are facing the shortage of professors in various positions, and Karnataka is the only state to not face such a huge problem. FVCK will conduct many such conferences in future to discuss many other issues which need immediate attention”.

Our Guest of Honour Dr. M. I. Savadatti, Former Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University, emphasized the treatment and importance of teaching fraternity who had to be considered as the backbone of a university, and that the plight of private universities is such sometimes these universities don’t have enough funds to accommodate the required facilities.

This National Conference was scheduled into four working sessions. Each working session was occupied by a chairperson and four speakers. The seminar had deliberations on:
“Role of Private Universities in the development of higher Education”.
“Stake holders’ perception in choosing a University”.
“Employability-expectations from Industry / Potential employers”.
 “Credibility of Maintaining Higher Standards”.

Some of the acclaimed orators for the Conference were Dr. M. I. Savadatti, Former Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University, Mangalore who chaired the discussion on “Role of Private Universities in the development of higher Education”, Sri. K. Jairaj, IAS, Trustee of BMSET & Former Additional Chief Secretary of Government of Karnataka, Bangalore, who discoursed the “Stake holders’ perception in choosing a University”. This was the significant focus of the conference and the expertise, knowledge and awareness of the eminent speakers in this area definitely accomplished the goal of the topic. Also, speakers like Dr. E. S. Dwarakadasa, Former Scientist, IISc & CEO and MD of Karnataka Hybrid Micro Devices Ltd., Dr. M. S. Subhas, Vice Chancellor of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Bellari., Prof. K.E. Radhakrishna, Chief Functionary, Samudra Foundation, Bengaluru shared their proficiency and expertise in different sessions. Chairperson like Dr. Sudhir W. Gavhane, Former Vice Chancellor of  Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik addressed the third session on the space where the emphasis was on the “Employability-expectations from Industry / Potential employers”. Dr. M. K. Surappa, Director Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar then chaired the session on “Credibility of Maintaining Higher Standards”.

At the end of the day, based on the prolonged deliberations, considerations and interactions, certain suggestions and recommendations were filed down and later on presented in front of the policy makers.
