Bengaluru, June 28, 2016: Avasarala Technologies Ltd, head quartered in Bengaluru, today announced its successful completion of the manufacturing of In-Wall Shielding in one of the nine sectors of ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) Vacuum vessel and to mark the occasion they will be handing over the documents to ITER –India, Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. ITER is an international nuclear fusion research and engineering megaproject, which will be the world's largest magnetic confinement plasma physics experiment.
ITER (a consortium of 7 countries including India, The European Union, South Korea, China, Japan, USA and Russia) and India is responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and commissioning of a number of ITER systems and equipments. ITER is a project under construction at Southern France to demonstrate power generation and the estimated project cost is over Rs. One Lakh Crore with 9% contribution of India. India will design, manufacture and install various systems and equipment, as in-kind contribution towards ITER project. In-Wall Shielding for ITER vacuum vessel is one of nine systems India will deliver to ITER project under such in-kind contributions through its domestic agency ITER-India.
MD & CEO T.T.Mani- Avasarala Technologies said “We are privileged to be associated with ITER in manufacturing, assembly and supplying of In-Wall Shielding (IWS) For the ITER Vacuum Vessel and have completed an important milestone of delivering a complete set of shielding blocks for one complete sector (sector #6) of the nine sectors for ITER. The vacuum vessel sectors themselves are being manufactured by Europe and S. Korea and some of the IWS component shipments from Avasarala Technologies have already reached the vessel manufacturer sites.” “Manufacturing of IWS involves Water-jet cutting and precision CNC machining of borated steel and they have to meet very stringent quality norms as ITER is a nuclear installation.” He added further.
Avasarala is a Project based Industry with 30 years from its inception located at Bangalore. They are strategic partners to the needs of important customers from Government of India viz., Nuclear Power Corporation Ltd. (NPCIL), Defence Labs, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) apart from various other customers in Automotive and Non-Automotive industries. It is a major contribution to ‘MAKE IN INDIA’ policy of Government of India.”

About ITER is one of the most ambitious energy projects in the world. Thousands of engineers and scientists have contributed to the design of ITER since the idea for an international joint experiment. An international science and technology R&D project, aims to demonstrate power generation by controlled fusion reaction of hydrogen isotopes. It is presently under construction in Southern France and India is responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and commissioning of nine systems. India is delivering to the ITER project under such in-kind contributions through its domestic agency ITER India, located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. (www.iter-india.org).
