InterPlas Thailand 2016 has plenty of opportunities for plastics manufacturers and equipment manufacturers interested in the ASEAN market said Mr. Tharadol Thongruang, Director of Thai Trade Center, New Delhi keynote speaker on the topic of Thai government’s policy to support manufacturing industries for AEC. He described the current trade between India and Thailand as having reached 8,815 million US dollars in 2015 and growing steadily. Total trade between India and the 10-members ASEAN countries have reached 68,313 million US dollars. Opportunity exists for Indian industries in plastics and equipment to take advantage of the vast ASEAN region with different levels of market potentials. Indian brands can easily choose the market it intends to make the greatest impression in – be it among the more mature markets of Thailand, Malaysia or Indonesia; or the less developed markets of Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia. And InterPlas Thailand is a proven medium with numerous matchmaking and networking opportunities within ASEAN countries
Thailand is strategically located towards the center of ASEAN and has developed strengths in the support industries especially in plastics production from upstream, to downstream industries used in automotive and other applications. The Thai government promotes the industrial sector to reach international standards in their production technology to compete in the world market. This is reflected in large imports of high value, quality machinery and equipment every year. The Thai government is ready to support Indian investments in Thailand to benefit from AEC as a single market.
Speaking on Growth and Trends of Plastics Industry in the Thai and ASEAN Market, Mr. Kongsak Dokbua, Vice President Plastics Market Intelligent Department, Plastics Institute of Thailand emphasized opportunities for Indian plastics manufacturers and equipment suppliers in the ASEAN market. He said that plastics industry in the ASEAN region is growing especially in the CLMV countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam). These countries have a steadily growing economy, largely in infrastructure growth in plastic products for the construction industry. Plastics used in packaging are already a high growth area in all the ASEAN countries as they are used in daily consumer items, growing at double digit rate. Demand for plastics used in automotive industry is strong in Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. Demand for plastics used in electrical products is strong in Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.
Mr. Kongsak described the Thai plastics industry as being worth more than 23,000 million US dollars a year, with growth rates of 4-5% a year. Thailand produces plastic pellets at 9 million tons a year of which 50% are consumed within Thailand and the rest are exported.
The Thai government has a clear policy to promote plastics to be the industry of the future. The demands are for investments in plastics used in automotive industry, electrical, medical
devices, space industry, agro industry, bio plastics etc. There is a high need for engineering plastics and bio plastics that are eco-friendly. Thus it can easily be said that there is a need for investments in plastics that support Thailand’s basic industries.
Mr. R K Aggarwal, President, The All India Plastics Manufactures’ Association (AIPMA) spoke on Business & Investment Linkage for AEC Manufacturing Industry Via InterPlas Thailand 2016, that it was an opportunity for Indian manufacturers of equipment and plastics products to attend the event and find out what opportunities exist. Asia, especially Southeast Asia and the AEC has an expanding economy and a large customer base. It is good for our members to look for new market opportunities in this area. I believe that opportunities exist and that InterPlas Thailand 2016 has much to recommend Indian businessmen. There is a large variety of plastics products market represented at this exhibition. The event has a well-developed reputation among plastics industry leaders in the ASEAN region, it has a proven high number of visitors coming from within the AEC and from further regions. This show is worth exploring for business opportunities.

They will be showing technologies from 350 brands from 20 countries in every category of injection, extrusion, blow, mono pigments, for plastic manufacturing from upstream to downstream industries be it packaging, automotive, construction materials, furniture and medical equipment and devices, even including recycling plastics and bioplastics. There will be International pavilions from 4 countries -- Japan, China, Taiwan and Singapore. Last year the show attracted 15,953 visitors. There are special activities such as business matchmaking, InterPlas Forum, factory visits, and workshops to provide valuable linkages for the business visitors.
Thailand has a reputation for high annual imports of plastics machinery and equipment to feed its expanding plastics industry. In 2015 – imports of machinery for use in plastics industry reached 791 million US dollars. Of this amount, the imports from leading countries were 340 million US dollars from China, 150 million US dollars from Japan, 59 million US dollars from Taiwan, 53 million US dollars from Germany. Indian machinery and equipment also successfully sold 5.7 million US dollars. I believe with good connections, your machinery and equipment will have a much better chance in this lucrative market.
This year’s InterPlas Thailand has the theme of Total Plastics Manufacturing Solution, to provide total solutions to all visitors to this event. Visitors will see leading technologies from trend leaders in plastic production such as Plastic injection hydraulic/electrical equipment, Dual-Color injection, In-Mould labelling (IML), Control system for Hot/Cold Runner and Robotics, and medical devices from Thai hydraulics, and producer of micro devices from Sodick.
There are special activity highlight zones: InterPackaging brings over hundred machineries and technologies for plastics packaging applications including containers, bottles, drums, trays, boxes, cups and vending packages, baby products and protection packages; Robot Technology Pavilion shows live demonstrations of high robotics performance from more than 10 robotics technologies for Injection Molding, Extrusion, Foaming, and related processes; Plastics Innovation Showcase Zone showing prototypes, materials and innovations in plastics manufacturing and offer advices on production challenges by experts from leading industrial associations; Composites Thailand show the latest trends in composites, starting from raw materials to technologies and techniques.
There are informative and educational seminars – first day for Automotive, second day for Packaging and BioPlastics and third day for Medical products for key types of technology on show.
Mr. Suttisak Wilanan invites Indian manufacturers and industry experts to participate in InterPlas 2016 either as an equipment exhibitor or as a visitor.
