Elaborating on the eye donation campaign, Dr. Adil Agarwal, CEO, Dr. Agarwal’s Group of Eye Hospital added, “The state of eye donation in the country is in shambles. Around 2.5 lakh people can benefit from eye donation, but only few people come forward to donate their eyes. Further, out of the 51,354 eyes donated in 2013-14, nearly 50% of eyes donated had gone to waste due to infections or delay in collection. We are confident that the mobile van campaign will help in creating better awareness and inspire participation from prospective donors. It will have a positive impact on the collection infrastructure and co-ordination.”
Elaborating on SMILE procedure, Dr. Rajesh BTJ, Medical Director, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital Indira Nagar said, “With long hours spend on computers, there is a tremendous increase in refractive error incidence in the city. It makes the patient dependent on spectacles and also restricts them from leading an active life. SMILE-Small Incision Lenticule Extraction procedure is fourth generation Laser procedure performed to treat myopic refractive errors upto -10 DS and also myopic astigmatic corrections upto -5 DC. SMILE procedure has the advantage of being a flapless surgery, eligible for all age groups and with better compliance. Above all it allows the patient to lead an active life.”
Situated at No. 3275, 12th Main, Hal 2nd stage, Indira Nagar, the new centre is a 6000 sq. ft super specialty eye hospital that houses a team of qualified ophthalmologists and eye care technology. Some of the significant features of this hospital include a state-of-the-art Modular Operation Theatre, The Precision Cataract and Retina Operation Theatre.
