“The previous model was already the sporty vanguard of the brand – and this applies to the second generation Audi R8 even more. The newly conceptualized high-performance sports car has been made even tauter and stronger, both on and off the race track. Embodied in its DNA is the know-how acquired in the numerous car racing successes that Audi has achieved over the years. In fact, 50 percent of the components of the new Audi R8 are from the Audi R8 LMS. With this next generation Audi R8 V10 Plus coming in, we are now unleashing the perfect poster boy for contemporary panache, outstanding performance and daily usability. We are sure that our enthusiasts in the state will love the car,” said Mr. Joe King, Head, Audi India.
Every new sportscar customer will be invited to the Audi Sportscar Experience programme at the Buddh International Circuit for a special training by expert Audi trainers on various driving techniques including cornering, braking and safety measures to be considered while driving a sportscar. The customers will be introduced to the features of the car and will get a live experience to test all the features of the sportscar in a controlled environment on track.
The new lighter and even more powerful second generation Audi R8 shares around 50 percent of its components with the R8 LMS, including technologies like the Audi Space Frame® and V10 engine. Clearly, the Audi R8 is a car with motorsport in its genes.
Performance to the Extreme
A 5.2 FSI Mid mounted engine, with 610 hp (449 kW) and maximum torque of 560 Nm, the all-new Audi R8 V10 plus accelerates in a mere 3.2 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and keeps going to its maximum speed of 330 km/h. The sound of the freely aspirated engine, whose maximum torque is available at 6,500 rpm, has become even fuller and sharper.
Every part of the all-new R8 is designed to give the best possible performance at all times. The seven-speed S tronic® transmission delivers gear changes within hundredths of a second and with virtually no break in acceleration. At the touch of a button, Audi Drive Select lets you adjust the Audi R8’s configuration by matching the ride dynamic to the friction coefficient of the road. And for the first time, the newly developed quattro® drivetrain also works with Audi Drive Select, enabling you to adapt the all-wheel-drive system for better traction and control.
Dual Injection: The dynamic combination of intake manifold and direct injection in the high-revving V10 yields very short fuel injection times. The result is not just noticeable, improved power delivery; it also makes for enhanced cooling and lower fuel consumption.
The quattro® drive system has been fully re-developed. The dual-clutch transmission directs newly designed quattro® drive system with an electro hydraulically activated multi-plate clutch at the front axle. It has active water cooling for maximum performance. Add to this, Audi drive select gives driver a choice between the basic modes comfort, auto, dynamic and individual. In addition to the Audi drive select feature, the Audi R8 V10 Plus also comes with a ‘Performance Mode’ for better traction in dry/wet and snow conditions. Preset coefficient parameters alter the traction control for optimum performance.
Power when you need
For the times when you don’t need the full power of the all-new Audi R8 V10 plus, advanced Cylinder-on-demand technology automatically shuts down five of the ten cylinders; this improves fuel consumption, particularly in city traffic. Accelerate on the open road again, and within milliseconds, all ten cylinders – and full engine power – are seamlessly back at your disposal.
Sometimes, Lighter means stronger
Thanks to the latest high-strength Audi Space Frame® (ASF), the all-new Audi R8 Coupé is even more agile on the road. The intelligent mix of aluminium and carbon makes it almost 50 kg lighter and 40 percent stiffer than the previous model. And now for the first time, the ASF is directly linked to the Sport suspension for enhanced driving dynamics.
Substance with some serious flash
The Audi R8 leads the way with LED headlights with Audi Laser Light technology. At 60 mph, four high-power laser diodes are activated by the high beam, sending out a narrow laser beam of white light that is not only brighter than the conventional LED high beam, but also reaches further, filling the driver’s lane with light - illuminating the darkest corner, and showing you clearly what lies ahead.
Extreme sport design, total Audi craftsmanship
The new Audi R8 V10 plus is 4.42 meters (14.5 ft.) long and 1.94 meters (6.4 ft.) wide. Its proportions – with its cabin placed far forward, a long back and relatively short wheelbase – make the technology concept of the mid-engine sports car clearly recognizable at first glance. The design and aerodynamics of the all-new Audi R8 mean the car is now lighter, flatter and more muscular than before with re-designed side blades for maximum rear tension and a fixed spoiler on the V10 plus. Gloss Carbon elements give the V10 plus an unmistakable motor-racing look, while a fixed rear spoiler provides greater downforce for enhanced grip in corners. Built on the aerodynamic concept of a race car, the next generation Audi R8 V10 Plus has improved fuel economy by 13 percent.
The interior of the all-new Audi R8 features a Monoposto cockpit design with everything focused on the driver. Climb inside the all-new Audi R8 and you get the feeling of being behind the wheel of a race car. The interior boasts refined materials, precise workmanship and innovative technologies.
quattro GmbH offers its customers a comprehensive line-up of customization options for further customizing the interior. For instance, illumination and personalization are available for the aluminum door sill trims. Customers can choose from many different upholsteries, trim panels and colors – the selection is nearly unlimited.
Behind the seats is a cargo space with 226 liters (8.0 cu ft.) of capacity. It supplements the 112 liter (4.0 cu ft.) luggage compartment at the front of the car. The car has newly conceptualized lightweight bucket seats. It is equipped with factory-installed 19-inch wheels. The car has forged wheels in five-twin-spoke design in matt titanium look.
Driving with intelligent technology
Audi Virtual Cockpit: customizable control
The Audi Virtual Cockpit has a fully customizable digital display. Combining the functions of a central MMI monitor and conventional instrument cluster in one high-resolution display, it depicts information in razor-sharp, brilliantly clear, high-contrast quality. The choice of three views – ‘Classic’ or ‘Performance’ – puts vital driver information right in front, with a flexible, responsive display. Performance view shows additional information such as torque, power, oil and tire temperatures, g-forces and lap times on the race track.
MMI Navigation plus with MMI Touch
MMI navigation plus with MMI touch is standard, newly developed operating concept with flat hierarchies like on a smartphone, including free text search. Technology is based on second generation modular infotainment platform (MIB).
Exclusively for the driver: operating controls
Just like in a race car, the interior of the high-performance sports car focuses on the driver. The steering wheel, instrument cluster and road all line up along one central visual axis. Drivers can operate all important functions with the multifunction and satellite push-buttons without having to take their hands off the steering wheel or look away from the road. The steering wheel has 20 controls, including four new satellite buttons. Engine start-up, exhaust sound, driving dynamics and gear changes can all be controlled from the buttons on the Audi R8 performance steering wheel.
“A high-revving mid-engine with superior performance, a consistently lightweight construction concept and an extremely dynamic chassis with quattro drive system and fully variable torque control – this is what makes the Audi R8 the sporty spearhead of Audi. The high-performance sports car has been newly developed from the ground up – it is more taut, more striking and more fascinating both on the race track and on the road,” added Mr. King.
The Audi model range in India includes the Audi A3, Audi A3 Cabriolet, Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A8 L, Audi Q3, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi TT Coupé, Audi S5 Sportback, Audi RS 6 Avant, Audi RS 7 Sportback and Audi R8 V10 Plus.
