Mumbai, April 2, 2016: An evening of magnificence at the Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year awards 2016 concluded at the NCPA in Mumbai with awardees from various fields being felicitated for their extensive contribution to the progress of the state. The awards recognise achievers from various fields to felicitate outstanding contributions to the state. The awards were announced for the fields of Social Service & Public Service, Science & Technology, Politics, Business, Art, Literature, Sports, and Entertainment.

Presiding over the ceremony was Hon. Chief Minister of Maharasthra, Shri. Devendra Fadnavis and the Guest of Honour was Aamir Khan. A special jury consisting of Sushilkumar Shinde, Praful Patel, Madhur Bhandarkar, Medha Patkar, Ujjwal Nikam, Shashikumar Chitre, Ayaz Memon, Popatrao Pawar and Harsh Goenka judged the final set of awardees after having collated the votes from the citizens of the state. These awards are an expression of gratitude to the veterans for their significant efforts in each field.
The 4 step process for selection involved a recommendation of potential nominees, followed by a shortlist, public voting, and finally, selection by a prominent jury.
Awards were presented to Mr. Razak Pathan for Public / Social Service, Shashikant Dhotre for Art, Mr. Deepak Pathak for Science and Technology, Persistent Systems for Business, Nitin Gadkari for the Most Influential politician, Rajiv Satav for the Politician who will fulfill peoples expectations, Lalita Babar for Sports, Amruta Subhash for Film (female), Nana Patekar for Film (male), Mukta Barve for Theatre, Satish Magar of the Magarpatta Township for Infrastructure, Ajoy Mehta for State level administration, Sandeep Patil for Regional Administration, and Shankar Mahadevan for Performing Arts.
Apart from these, Mrs. Nita Ambani is being felicitated as the Maharashtra Youth Icon. Ranveer Singh was presented with the Lokmat Abhimaan Award, Mrs. Asha Bhonsale the Maharashtra Jeevan Gaurav Award, and Dr. Rajendra Badve the Maharashtra Maanbindu Award.
