India’s most loved children’s character, Suppandi of Tinkle, has associated with Tata Mutual Fund, one of India’s leading mutual funds to educate people about Investing and Mutual Funds through a comic. Tata Mutual Fund have launched a new 32 page comic book called “Making Investing Simple for Suppandi – with Professor Simply Simple” to simplify complex investment concepts for people.
Suppandi is the quintessential common man, simple and taking everything at face value. The idea was that their brand mascot Professor Simply Simple would explain these concepts to Suppandi using everyday examples from the common man’s life, and if ‘Suppandi can understand them, so can everybody else’ said Mr.Sanjay Dhar, President – Content Solutions Group. “The association started in 2014 when Tata Mutual Fund got in touch with us to explore if we could develop simple stories to explain complex concepts related to investing in the financial markets in such a way that the common man could also understand them. This is one of its first kind investor education campaign, which is done in a comic book format as a series of comic stories, along with animated video stories to support the print version”, he further added.
The comic book “Making Investing Simple for Suppandi – with Professor Simply Simple” is a series of 11 stories in which Suppandi and Professor Simply Simple introduce and explain concepts related to investing. In each story, an incident or situation leads to the introduction of a new concept with Suppandi displaying his regular brand of humor and his own inimitable style, giving readers his simple Suppandi version of the financial concept.
Ms. Shriya Ghate, Editor, Tinkle Digest said, “It is amazing how this beloved character has evolved through the years and has managed to hold on to the pulse of the public even after all this time. Suppandi has gone from being household help to now having a variety of office jobs—he has worked in a bank, a gym and even an advertising agency. He is now at a point when even he needs to invest! But no matter his job, his trademark ‘Suppandi thinking’ remains and continues to astound and make us laugh out loud. That is a testament to a timeless character”.
Mr. Nipun Kaushal, Head – Marketing & Corporate Communication at Tata Asset Management Ltd said “The idea was to leave a huge impact on the target audience. Our single minded focus has always been to make people appreciate the significance of finance in their lives and how they can personally benefit from financial education.Professor Simply Simple, the friendly financial wizard has been helping people understand complicated financial jargon using analogies and stories since 2006. Suppandi’s innocence is charming without seeming silly and appeals to both children as well as adults. We have all grown up with comics, so the idea of Suppandi meeting Professor Simply Simple, the simpleton and the genius, promised to be a nice fit.We adopted the comic book approach to explain financial concepts in a unique and engaging manner that will positively leave a huge impact on the readers across ages. Our goal continues to be education, not selling schemes. Our attempt through this association has helped us reach masses across ages and re-discover the potency of story-telling to make financial concepts relevant.” add history of PSS
