Jewels have a long history of being associated with myths, legends, astrology, religion and magic. Once restricted to the coffers of European monarchs, Mughal emperors, Indian rajas and noblemen, precious stones have gone through a long and interesting history to make their way into the vaults of the public. In April, India’s leading online auction house Saffron art focuses on unique, colourful, and easy-to-wearpieces in its Online Auction of Fine Jewels and Watches.Available at attractive price points, most pieces are ideal for casual wear.

Jewellery lots on auction include Colombian emeralds, Burmese rubies, Kashmir sapphires and aquamarine, all colours which herald the start of Spring and the Holi season. The auction also features many pieces set with diamonds, the birthstone for the month of April. Included in this sale are watches that are statement pieces and stylish collectibles, and a legacy to be passed on to the next generation.

A pair of earrings worn by Dylan Penn, actor Sean Penn’s daughter, at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party last year, is expected to garner a lot of attention. The earrings are set with Forevermark diamonds, which are certified after a rigorous selection process. An aquamarine ring, set with a kyanite and diamond surround, is one of the highlights. Also included among the highlights is a Ladies’ Wristwatch by Patek Philippe.

A spokesperson for the company says, “At Saffronart’s Springauction, bidders have a great opportunity to purchase carefully selected jewellery at attractive prices. The lots will be on display in Saffronart’s galleries in Mumbai and Delhi, and the team of experts is on hand to address any queries. Buyers can make an informed decision by reading condition reports and seeing a list of comparables available on our website. As with art, Saffronart makes the process of buying jewellery transparent, easy, and enjoyable.”

The auction takes place on 19 – 20 April 2016 on saffronart.com. The catalogue can be viewed online once live.
