LIMEROAD LAUNCHES #LIMEROADWEAVESOFINDIA

The idea behind the campaign is to bring traditional weaves in the limelight and promote the age-old weaving techniques. Each weaving technique is a timeless classic, passed on from one generation of weavers to another.  Our collection of sarees uses native weaves and handcrafted fabrics so that we can effectively promote the work of our local weavers and make sure they have access to a wider market through LimeRoad’s digital platform.

LimeRoad is extending its support to many small homegrown vendors by taking care of their marketing, logistics and exposure to a large consumer base. Thus, these budding entrepreneurs are able to reach greater return on investment due to huge cost savings.

Mr. Rohit who sells Benarasi weaves on LimeRoad under the brand ‘Bunkar’ started his social enterprise in 2011 after a well-cushioned job in Bangalore. Varanasi being his hometown, he strongly felt the need to build a business in order to promote the weaves and help the local weavers to earn a living. LimeRoad empowered him to connect customers with the weavers. It became easier for him to share consumer insights with the weavers and in turn, they understood how to meet the market needs with minimum cost involved. He started with 4 weavers and by the end of first year, he had engaged 120 weavers with Bunkar. Today, he is working with 1800 weavers, producing 30, 000 sarees in a month and running a profitable business.

Mr. Ramkrishna Prasad-owner of Just Jamdani, was running his family business of Bengal handloom since last 40 years. Today, he sells Jamdani which is one of the finest handcrafted Bengal textiles on LimeRoad. He has employed over 700 vendors to meet the demands of the vast expanse of his online consumers due to the widespread reach with LimeRoad’s platform.

Mr. Anand-owner of Fashion Kiosks, who sells Kasavu Sarees, one of the traditional Kerala sarees, on LimeRoad is currently running a 6 Cr turnover for his business. He happily shares how the reach of his local product has spread to so many other parts of the country through LimeRoad. His product is no more confined to south Indian festivals but has become a trendy traditional pick via LimeRoad.

LimeRoad’s campaign aims to celebrate Indian weaves, promote the indigenous weavers, and help the Indian heritage by protecting the rich handloom legacy and culture.
