April 12, 2016, New Delhi: The Clean energy arm of Hindustan Power today commissioned its 30 MW solar farm in Mansa district of Punjab. The mid-sized grid connected solar farm was commissioned at an investment of Rs 200 crore. The solar farm will tap the vast solar energy potential of Punjab estimated at 4-7 KWH/Sq.mtr of solar insolation levels to promote clean energy and will enable the state to achieve its RPO obligation. The project will feed 50 million units of clean energy annually to the 66 KV grid and enough to cater to the energy needs of 24,000 households per day.
Situated in the cotton farming region of Punjab, the solar farm is part of the effort by the State Government to promote clean energy and turn farmers into green energy entrepreneurs. The PPA for the project has been signed with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
Speaking on the occasion, Ratul Puri, Chairman Hindustan Power said, “India has embarked on its target to achieve 175 GW by 2022 in the right earnest and commissioning of this 30 MW is another significant step in this direction. The 30 MW solar farm commissioned at an investment of INR 200 crores has the distinction of generating full load from the first day of its commissioning.”

Considering the rough terrain, the commissioning would not have been possible without the partnership attitude of the local community. Our design and engineering team have designed the farm to leverage the irradiance the area receives and help address the RPO target of the state”
With a current solar capacity of 500MW, the company is on the path of achieving a total solar capacity of 2 GW in next couple of years. The clean energy arm of the company is the largest solar farm developer in India generating carbon savings of approx 720000 tonnes per year.
