Colorectal Cancers on a rise in India: Colorectal cancer is the fourth most common cancer in men and the third most common cancer in women worldwide.  India has experienced a significant increase in the incidence of colorectal cancer during the past few decades. In recent years, we have observed an increased incidence of colorectal cancers in younger age group, and most of them are presented to a clinician at an advanced stage of the disease.  This makes the treatment more difficult and also with very less chances of recovery. There is a rising incidence of CRC in young adults from diverse geographic and ethnic backgrounds, which could be linked to environmental pollution or lifestyle factors, such as obesity, physical inactivity, and a diet rich in processed foods.

Dr Deepak Subramanian, Consultant – Minimal Access & Bariatric Surgery at Fortis Malar noted “The emphasis is to reduce permanent stoma for these patients by effective screening and treatment by a multi disciplinary team.”

ICCR celebrates World Dance Day, honours renowned choreographers

APRIL 30: ‘World Dance Day’ was celebrated by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Union Ministry of External Affairs, in the auditorium of Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, by organizing a seminar, workshop and also felicitating prominent choreographers of Jammu region.

Speaking on the occasion the Regional Director of ICCR Jammu, Balwant Thakur, dwelt in detail about the history of this auspicious day of the dancers fraternity. He informed that in Jammu, this day is being celebrated for the first time and the mission behind is to reflect upon the scene of dance practice in this region and also to ponder upon the measures to improve its quality and respectable presence.

Interestingly, this function was attended by the majority of the dancers and choreographers and amongst them five prominent choreographers who have excelled to establish their unique styles and forms were given the opportunity to share their views and conceptions.

The youngest among them Aakash Dogra while speaking on the occasion, impressed upon the need of holding workshops and creating a connect with the traditional practitioners. JR Sharma (Jackson) discussed the present poor State of Government patronage to the development of the art of dance and appealed the authorities for the enhancement of the remuneration being offered to professional dancers in J&K.

Rakesh Kumar Kona revealed certain realities of the dance world of Jammu where internal fighting and un-acceptance for each other’s work is damaging the growth of the dancing standards of Jammu. He wanted all to find out ways and means to flush out this negativity. Randhir Kumar who retired as choreographer from J&K Cultural Academy underlined his own initiative in raising the standards and quality of local dance presentations.

The man who made this day special was the senior most dancer and choreographer, a product of Kathak Kendra- Pandit Naryan Prashad. His presentation was a mixture of workshop and demonstrations and he strongly stressed on the need of establishing the institution of ‘Guru Shishya Prampara’.

At the culmination of the programme, all the five choreographers were felicitated by ICCR Jammu. The felicitations were done by Regional Director ICCR, Balwant Thakur; Secretary, Red Cross, RC Puri and PP Sharma, former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, J&K Government.

Passion for Fashion Ritu Beri at Sushant School of Design

Sushant School of Design, Ansal University had the pleasure of hosting India’s first lady of fashion, Ms.Ritu Beri at its campus on April 29, under the aegis of Platform Lecture Series of the Institution.

Ms. Beri inaugurated the student design exhibition at SSD. The exhibition showcased the entire year’s work of the foundation year students and those specializing in Interior Architecture, Fashion and Textiles, Visual Communication and Product Design. In the exhibition, also was displayed the work done by the students duringThe Un Fair Exhibition – Envisioning the Indian City at Select City Walk in Delhi. The ace fashion designer was highly impressed by the work done by the young designers in making.

Passion for Fashion Ritu Beri at Sushant School of Design


Her presence at the campus was a big moment for the entire design fraternity, who look up to her as a style icon. She spoke on her passion for fashion and had a very interactive session with the students and faculty members.Ms. Beri shared her journey of more than two decades as a designer, which was a great learning experience for the students. Further in the session, she highlighted the importance of Khadi garments and the style that it carries. She will be working soon on her new range which will take us all back to traditional old Indian fashion days.

She also launched her two books, 'The Fire of a Restless Mind' and 'The Designs of a Restless Mind' which captures her extraordinary journey in fashion.

Ms. Beri is the mentor of the Fashion and Textile programme at the Sushant School of Design (SSD) and is an Advisory Board member of the School. Sushant School of Design has been a highly ranked private design institute of the country by Edutainment Awards for the past two years consequently. The School offers various under-graduate and post-graduate programmes in the area of design.
