Chennai, 8th March 2016: The members of Sakhi Mandal Sahyog celebrated the 25th Women’s Day Celebrations at Darbar Hall, Raj Bhavan in Chennai today.

The celebrations had Dr. K. Rosaiah, His Excellency The Governor of Tamil Nadu as the Chief Guest for the ceremony, Ms. Daidem Atahan Fabig, Psychotherapist & wife of Consul General of Germany was the Guest of Honour for the ceremony. Ms. Gopika Varma, Mohiniattam exponent delivered the special address for the celebrations.

Dr. K. Rosaiah, His Excellency The Governor of Tamil Nadu presented awards to women achievers from various walks of life. The award ceremony was held to appreciate the strengths of women and mainly aimed to celebrate the dedicated efforts of women in bringing change in the society. Ms.Jaishri Mital and Ms.Veena Agarawal, Conveners, Sakhi Mandal Sahyog, Ms.Veeha Malhotra, President, Sakhi Mandal Sahyog, Ms.Vibha Jain, Secretary, Sakhi Mandal Sahyog and other dignitaries were also present for the celebrations.

International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation, and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political, and social achievements. Women’s Day started as a socialist political event, the holiday blended the culture of many countries.

Dr. K. Rosaiah, His Excellency The Governor of Tamil Nadu said “It gives me immense joy to be present here today; Women have been a major aspect of change in the society. Women play a huge role in the society. It is very important for every individual to view women as a source of support and strength. It gives me immense joy to celebrate the morning today with all the achievers.”

Speaking about the celebration Ms. Daidem Atahan Fabig, Psychotherapist & wife of Consul General of Germany said ”Women play a huge role in the society today. Women are always looked at as a pillar of support and strength. It takes enormous amount of hard work to overcome all the obstacles and make a difference. I am very happy to see that few women shine.
