Rohan Bopanna to 'serve' a weekend of tennis

2nd March, 2016, Bengaluru: In what promises to be an exciting weekend for the tennis faithful in Bengaluru, Indian doubles star and local boy Rohan Bopanna will host an inaugural tennis clinic through the weekend of 4th, 5th and 6th of March, as part of the launch of the Rohan Bopanna Tennis Academy (RBTA), a coaching facility with a refreshing new curriculum aimed at enabling grassroots development of tennis in India.

The RBTA has been established with the aim to provide children of all ages access to tennis coaching of a global standard. The primary focus will be on developing a holistic approach towards the sport - developing overall sports fitness and establishing a strong foundation of tennis skills.

Rohan, who is hopeful about the development of young talent in the sport for India. "I am very clear that we are not an academy that will claim to create an Indian Grand Slam champion. It takes a lot of factors, beyond just coaching, to be able to do that and that isn't our only focus at RBTA. Our immediate goal is to get young kids interested in playing tennis and building their fitness foundation the right way. The idea is to get more and more kids to play and have fun while doing so. In the long term our goal is to build a talent pool that will graduate into our elite academy and subsequently compete effectively on the world stage."Said Rohan.

RBTA offers 2 levels of coaching programs to children between 4 and 14 years. This one of a kind curriculum has been developed by Rohan along with RBTA Mentor Coach,  Pietie Norval, a Olympics men's doubles silver medalist and Grand Slam winner who has spent the last decade coaching children in South Africa. Both Rohan and Pietie will be actively involved in the program with the latter being present regularly at the academy. Day to day management will be in the hands of experienced staff, personally selected by Rohan and Pietie.

Do join us at the Rohan Bopanna Tennis Academy on the 4 th of March 2016, at 4:00 PM to meet with Rohan Bopanna and Coach, Pietie Norval
