Mumbai ranked top on hotel price paid across India by travellers in 2015:reveals Hotels.com HPI report


·         Global hotel prices paid by travellers worldwide rose by just 1% in2015, according to latest Hotel Price Index from Hotels.com

·         Mumbai tops the list of average hotel prices paid by domestic and international travellers in 2015 at a rate of INR 8,160, showing a 3% increase compared to that of 2014

·         Hotel prices in Bengaluru surged by 4% as it became the new preferred base for transit among travellers

Chandigarh 10thMarch, 2016:There is good news for travellers coming from the latestHotel Price Index™ (HPI™) from Hotels.com™ with the average prices paid* per night for hotel accommodation up only 1% globally in 2015 as compared to 2014. Meanwhile for India, the Index saw no movement either up or down.

According to the latest HPI report, Mumbai, Delhi and Bengalurutopped the charts where travellers paid the most for hotel accommodation in Indiain 2015.Mumbai, known for its buzzing night life and a variety of tourist attractions,is the city where all travellers, both domestic and international visitors, paid the mostfor accommodation with a 3% increase toINR 8,160 per night. Delhi, which for two consecutive years witnessed an increase in tariff prices, this time marginally fell by 1% to INR 6,807.



In spite of being affected by flash floods in the second half of 2015, hotel prices in Chennai increased by 3% to INR 5,899 per night. The perineal ‘Beach Destination’ Goa,which is promoted as a tourist destination round the clock, witnessed an increase of the hotel room price by 3% to INR 6,361.Jaipur,one of the eminent tourist attractions in Indiarecorded one of the highest increases with 5% toINR 5,563.



Bengaluru,the ‘IT capital of India’ saw an increase of 4% in hotel room price to INR 6,553in 2015 as five new international airlines expanded operations there, making the citya preferred transit destination amongst international travelers visiting India. Meanwhile Pune retained its tag of being the ‘best value’ destination with no fluctuations in the hotel room price in 2015.Cochin a popular tourist destination down South, recorded the highestfallby 9% toINR 5,194 followed by Kolkata and Hyderabadwith a 5% fallto INR6,141and INR 5,323respectively.
