Bangalore, March 7, 2016: When 21-year old Uma went up on stage and rendered a beautiful number, she had the audience completely mesmerized. Another 21-year-old Anita performed a classical dance matching every beat, to the amazement of one and all. The reaction of the audience was not surprising considering that the performers were challenged and different abled. While Uma is visually impaired, Anita is a triple amputee!

These 2 performers and a few others were felicitated as a part of the International Women’s Day celebrations organized by Vaishnavi Group in association with Prerana, an NGO that houses 120 physically and mentally challenged women.
The celebrations, held at the site of Vaishnavi Gardenia, Jalahalli today had noted film star Yash and Abishek Ambareesh (son of rebel star Ambareesh) as the chief guests. Other awe inspiring performances by the women of Prerana were a melodious song performance by a group of visually impaired girls and a skit act by a group of physically challenged women
The fact that each one of them had put their challenges aside to create a captivating performance was truly commendable and spoke volumes about the grit and determination of these great women. The event also saw a celebrity performance by stand-up comedian Dayanand and singer Aravind for the entertainment of Prerana’s young women.
Felicitating these special women, a totally awe struck Yash exclaimed “It is a privilege for me to honor these real achievers. Hats off to all the women of Prerana! While I have attended many women’s day events, this one is truly special. The contribution and support of Mrs. Asha and Meghna is praiseworthy.” Yash also sang 2 lines from his movie Mr & Mrs Ramachari “Hango hingo hengo idhe. Hingaghodhe noodu. Annthamma annthamma” to resounding claps from the audience.
A total of 11 women were felicitated on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Asha Govindaraju, Director, Vaishnavi Group said, “It is indeed commendable that Prerana is working tirelessly towards supporting differently abled women. Building from the heart is the philosophy of our group. As part of our CSR activities and in line with our ongoing mission of giving back to society, we are trying to help these women live independently and with dignity. Our support towards this cause is unconditional. We are privileged to have adopted them.”
Speaking on the work being done at Prerana, Meghna, Managing Coordinator said, “We truly believe that every woman has the inner strength to overcome her challenges and live a life of freedom. Hence we equip these women with skills so that they can live life without dependency which is a big boost to their self confidence. The support we have received from Mrs Asha Govindaraju and Vaishnavi Group has been tremendous”.
The program, ended with a vote of thanks by Darshan Govindaraju, Director, Vaishnavi Group.

About Prerana Resource Center

The center has as many as 120 orphan young women, over the age of 18, who are physically and mentally challenged. Inspired by the work of her mother Prashantha, Meghna took over the reins of the Center and runs it successfully today. The organization has flourished immensely and Meghna has also received the National Award for her work. The selfless work done by Prerana is a cause close to the heart of Mrs Asha Govindaraju and hence the group has adopted the centre.
