Bangalore, February,2016: When Kunal Malhotra and Viraj Bake signed up for the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz in 2015, they knew they had to be better than the best; they had to be first amongst equals. And all through their journey to the finale, the two from IIFT Kolkata played a game laced with passion and panache, and displayed their intellectual prowess like never before. The duo went on to win the competition and lift the trophy. Who will it be this year? And, how different will it be this year?

This year, the 12th edition of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz is being expanded to cover 36 cities and will kick-off beginning February 13, from Goa and will culminate in Mumbai in April 2016.

So what makes this prestigious quiz event so popular among the youth? It’s never about the prize money, but the knowledge that comes from within, for those who have the urge to know more. It’s a lot about taking on the ace quizmaster Giri Balasubramaniam, better known as ‘Pickbrain’, battling it out against the sharpest minds to finally take home the trophy. The essence of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz is that it tests the patience, endurance of the contestants and encourages quick and out-of-the-box thinking with its challenging formats.

What began as a knowledge initiative for the youth in 2005 has widened its audience base within India and spread its wings abroad as well. With each passing year, Tata Crucible has raised the bar for quizzing and has maintained the enthusiasm of the contestants through every round. The format for this year's Tata Crucible would be a unique 20-20 game to be played on the basis of a 20 question Prelim followed by a T20 format final. The format will require the contestants to be fast paced and tactical on the buzzer to score.

The finale would be divided in three rounds titled ‘Off the Mark’, ‘Corridor of Uncertainty’ and ‘Time to Zoot’. There would also be surprises like a free hit and tactics like power-play that teams can capitalize on and hone their decision-making skills.

Commenting on this knowledge initiative pioneered by the Tata group, Mr. Atul Agrawal, Vice President – Corporate Affairs, Tata Services, said, “The Tata Crucible Campus Quiz endeavours to nurture the young talent who are knowledge-hungry and passionate about quizzing. We believe that having all the right pieces in hand is not enough to crack the puzzle, making them fit together to arrive at the bigger picture matters. We are delighted at the response of the students and support from the colleges,t and are happy to launch the new edition expanding it to 36 cities across the country”.

Regional round winners will compete in the zonal finals and the top two teams from each zone will be invited to the national finals, to be held in Mumbai. The winners of the national finals will receive a grand prize of Rs. 5,00,000* along with the coveted Tata Crucible Trophy; the winners of the regional rounds and runners-up will be awarded a prize money of Rs. 75,000* and Rs. 35,000* respectively.

With an interesting format, fresh thinking and competitive spirit, this season would be all the more bigger and better, promising an electrifying and dynamic quizzing experience.
