Mumbai, February 22 :To honor the selfless service credo of eminent social worker and educationist Late Shri. Hashu Advani, the founder of Vivekanand Education Society (VES), Shri Prakash Mehta, Minister of Labor& Mines, Government of Maharashtra has proposed to the state government to observe his birth anniversary on February 22 as ‘Nishkam Seva Divas’. He said this while addressing a gathering of students, teachers and trustees who had assembled on the VES campus to pay homage to the memory of Shri Advani. The proposal has also been seconded strongly by Mr. Vinod Tawde, Minister of Education, Government of Maharashtra.
The 90th Birth Anniversary of Shri. Hashu Advani, was marked by social work contributions from 26 institutes affiliated to VES. The best award was presented to VES Polytechnic by Mr. Mehta for their innovative ideas. Mr. Mehta also stated that the birth anniversary of such a great human being who placed the nation and society before self should be celebrated on a wider scale on a state level where students from other educational institutes will get to showcase their varied social activity initiatives.
A refugee who migrated from Pakistan after the partition, Shri Advani was an avid philanthropist and educationist who made Chembur his home. The institution called VES which was started by him as a small effort to make education easily accessible to students from different strata of society has grown today into a world-class educational entity across several acres. A small journey that started with 256 students in 1962 has metamorphosed into an educational movement of more than 18,000 students offering diverse courses in adherence with best global practices
