Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and themed “Playground of the World • Party of the Year”, the parade was the centre of a spectacular, festive party celebrating the start of Chinese New Year.
The launch ceremony of the parade was performed by Mr John Tsang, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government; Miss Cathy Chu, Commissioner for Tourism; Sir Wayne Leung, HKTB Board Member; and Mr Ivan Chu, Chief Executive of Cathay Pacific Airways.
Cathay Pacific Airways was the title-sponsor of the night parade for the 18th consecutive year, and China Construction Bank (Asia) was the route sponsor for the second year in a row.
This year the HKTB installed more decorations along the route to transform the Cultural Centre and the parade route into an extended playground, allowing spectators the opportunity to fully experience the festive atmosphere. The HKTB also provided satellite and fibre transmission of the event for live broadcast to global TV stations, major newswires and international cruise liners.
After the parade, visitors and local residents will still be able to enjoy the parade floats in Lam Tsuen, Tai Po until 22 February, and watch the numerous performing groups at selected hotspots in town on 9 and 10 February. In addition, a new phase of the Hong Kong Pulse 3D Light Show, also organised by the HKTB, will be staged at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Clock Tower from 10 to 29 February, with four shows every evening.
