Bengaluru, 22nd February, 2016: United Way Bengaluru in association with and Whitefield Rising, a citizen based action group will be organizing the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) installation at Kundalahalli Lake on 22nd February, 2106 at 9.30 am.This initiative is supported by Qualcomm Incorporated through its subsidiary, Qualcomm India, as a part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in India.

The STP installation, which is the joined effort of United Way Bengaluru Whitefield Rising, BBMP, concerned neighborhood communities and corporate companies,is eco-friendly in nature and doesn’t require the use of electricity. It cleans water in a natural way.

As the first step towards the rejuvenation of Kundalahalli Lake, the STP will stop raw sewage from directly entering the lake. The lake which is situated in the heart of Whitefield is surrounded by numerous companies and large apartment complexes. Several like -minded people in Whitefield realized the urgent need of rescuing the lake from its premature demise.

The STP will ensure that 780 kilo-liters of raw sewage is treated daily. The recycled water will then be released to the lake, thereby replenishing it as well as rejuvenating it.

Prashant Prakash, United Way Bengaluru Chairman said,“We live in a society facing complex challenges. The problems in our community can only be permanently resolved when the Government, Community, Corporates and Civil Society Organization come together to address these issues. We all have to play a critical role in building up our neighborhood. This rejuvenation initiative is one such shining example on how we can address complex community problems together”.

Arvind Keerthi, who has been associated with Whitefield Rising for some time is very excited that Kundanahalli Lake is getting a facelift. He said “A lake advisory committee has been formed that consists of BBMP, Community Members, United Way Bengaluru, Sponsoring Corporates and Environmental Experts to closely monitor the rejuvenation work at the lake. This is to ensure that rejuvenation work moves smoothly and doesn’t face any setbacks”.
