South Asian Games

At the recently concluded 12th South Asian Games, India finished on top of the medals table with a staggering 308 medals. The Indian contingent won 188 gold, 90 silver and 30 bronze medals at the Games held in Guwahati and Shillong from February 5th to 16th.

GoSports athletes put up stellar performances at the Games to finish with a total of 19 medals -  14 gold and 5 silver medals. Here's a quick look at how our athletes fared at the event.

Badminton

Indian shuttlers made a clean sweep of all the gold medals on offer at the Games. GoSports athletes Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy helped the men’s team to gold with a comprehensive win over Sri Lanka in the finals. Upcoming stars Ruthvika Shivani and Vrushali Gummadi were part of the women’s team which also beat Sri Lanka to win the gold medal.

 Young Ruthvika Shivani had saved her best for the last, as she triumphed over the Indian powerhouse PV Sindhu in straight sets. She beat the World No. 14 Sindhu - 21-11, 23-21 - to win the Gold Medal in the Women’s Singles event.



Kidambi Srikanth went on to win Gold in the Men’s Singles event as well, defeating fellow GoSports athlete HS Prannoy in a hard fought final which ended 11-21, 21-14, 21-7 in Srikanth’s favour.

Swimming 
2014 Asian Games bronze medallist Sandeep Sejwal won gold in all the four events that he entered. He set new Games records in the 200m Breaststroke (2 minutes 20.66 seconds), 100m Breaststroke (1 minute 3.14 seconds), 50m breaststroke (28.79 seconds) and 4x100m Medley Relay (3 minutes 49.78 seconds).

GoSports Athlete Supriya Mondal was also an integral part of the Indian team that won a gold medal in the men’s 4x100m Medley Relay (3 minutes 49.78 seconds).

 Young Supriya also bagged a silver medal in the 100m Butterfly event, clocking in at 55.86 seconds.

M R Poovamma won gold in the 400m clocking 54.1 seconds. She was also a part of the Women's team that raced to yet another gold in the 4x400m Relay

Heptathlete Swapna Barman won a silver medal in High Jump. She cleared a height of 1.75 mts to bag the silver, just 0.03 metres short of the winner.

Anjum Moudgil won an individual gold in 50m rifle 3 position, with a score of 452.2. She also led the Indian team to a gold medal in the same event.

Table Tennis

G Sathiyan was instrumental in helping the men’s team win a Gold medal, beating Sri Lanka 3-0 in the final. He also won a gold medal in Men’s Doubles partnering Devesh Karia.
 Partnering Mouma Das, Sathiyan bagged a silver in Mixed Doubles. He had to concede the Men's Singles final due to injury and be content with adding another silver to his kitty.
