Mysore, 28 January 2016: The British Council, launches ‘Enriching Education Workshop’ in Mysore, an initiative, under the Connecting Classrooms India programme to address the gap in global skills and promote cross-curricular learning. The workshop has been launched with a view to provide a strong foundation for schools that believe International dimension and global education should be an integral part of the curriculum.
The Enriching Education Workshop will have a team of Indian and UK experts leading the professional development programme for the teachers from 28-31 January 2016 at Manasarowar Pushkarini Vidyashrama School. The four days course will broadly cover - Communication and Collaboration; Child Protection ; Music for Little People and Inside-Out: Exploring out-of-school and experiential learning techniques to enliven our teaching.
Speaking on the occasion, Mei-kwei Barker, Director British South India said, ‘Continuous Professional Development is key in ensuring that teachers are able to develop their personal and professional skills which in turn facilitates an effective and motivating learning experience for their students. The ‘Enriching Education Workshop’ aims to empower teachers to enhance their teaching skills for better outcomes.’
Music for Little People is designed for primary class teachers to learn about embedding and integrating music in to the curriculum and creating space for music in school. This session will empower the teachers to use the music as a tool to develop young learner’s sensory and motor skills. Workshop for Inside-Out: Exploring out-of-school and experiential learning techniques to enliven our teaching for primary/middle school teachers aims at delivering hands-on science experience lessons with special focus on women British Scientists, flora, fauna and science in Britain. Teachers and educators will be exposed to the strategies of embedding the science and social science in to the classrooms creatively and with confidence.
The session titled, Child Protection will be conducted by British Council validated trainers. This session aims to understand how, the way we see childhood, children, their experiences and their rights, affects our ability to protect them. Comunication and Collaboration (British Council Core Skills Globally validated trainers) will reflect on teachers communicative and collaborative skills and will enable them to confidently propose and discuss ideas to integrate and develop intercultural and/or plurilingual communicative and collaborative skills into regular classroom and school activities; promote the development of intercultural collaborative and communicative skills in school contexts for all students including those with special and additional needs.
Started in March 2013, the Enriching Education workshops have travelled across geographies, to Thiruvananthapuram (March 2013), Greater Noida (February 2014), Coimbatore (June 2014), Bhubaneshwar (April 2015), and Mumbai (August 2015). Delhi will witness the next Enriching Education workshops.
